NIPC Law is the collective name of the barristers who practise under the
NIPC Brands. See the
"Who We Are" page for our
photographs and details.
Each of us is self-employed in independent private practice at the bar of
England and Wales. NIPC Law is neither a partnership nor a corporation. None
of us has any interest in the practice of any other. That enables each of us
to advise a party with an opposing interest to a client of another NIPC
barrister and even to appear against him or her in court, which we
occasionally do.
Though we have many of the attributes of a conventional set of chambers we
differ from them in one important respect. We have no common property. Our
lease to our main premises and all the other assets of NIPC Law belong
either to Jane Lambert or to NIPC Ltd. None of us has any
authority to bind any other. Our only individual liability is to perform our
contract with that company. We believe that makes us more stable and
resilient than most conventional chambers.
As our most valuable asset is the reputation of the NIPC brand, our
contracts with our
service company are more like a business format franchise
than a tenancy. However, we retain a shared ethos, many common interests and
a mutual concern for each other which are the features of the chambers
system most worth preserving.
